Dive into a Sound Bath this Saturday!

October 3, 2013
Sound Bath: Naaz Hosseini, Steve Gorn, and Peter Blum

Sound Bath: Naaz Hosseini, Steve Gorn, and Peter Blum

Several times a year, I dive into a bath – not the water kind, but the sound kind.

A Sound Bath.

This Saturday, October 5 at 8:00pm, I will join my colleagues Peter Blum and Steve Gorn for a “Sacred Sound Bath” at Unison Arts in New Paltz, New York.

Peter will bring his many magical singing bowls, flutes, percussion, and gongs.  Steve will weave mysteries with his magnificent bansuri flute and clarinet. And, I will use my voice and violin to conjure sounds of the universe ancient and new.

As you probably can tell from my ornate language, I love diving in and swimming in the ocean of sound. We divers, audience and performers alike, emerge well-washed, renewed, and sparkling.

The audience usually lies on the floor on mats or blankets, relaxing deeply, or journeying into the depths. A Sound Bath is an excursion out of the ordinary and into a full sensory experience of sonic vibration.

I can’t wait!

And, if you’re in the New Paltz area and would like to check out this live event for yourself, click HERE for more info.

Stay tuned for some new excursions in future posts.

“…Naaz Hosseini holds events called ‘sound baths,’ in which she performs on voice and drone-like instruments, drifting from the perimeter of the room while audience members lie down and absorb the sound vibrations in a horizontal concert. The resonant Himalayan singing bowls played by Peter Blum create overtones, which she responds to vocally, weaving long sustained passages punctuated by unpredictable, haunting phrases, emoting a raw energy with her flexible voice. ‘Sound can resonate quite differently for one person or another. The soundbath listener may be soothed or energized as they soak up evocative vibrations. The sound goes where it’s needed and heals,’ says Hosseini about her meditative, acoustic, surround-sound sessions.”
