Shake It Up

October 19, 2013

Lena Madsen YogaWhenever my yoga teacher goes off for a training, she returns renewed and inspired. And we can be certain that something new will be happening in class.

A new twist, a new perspective, new connections…

Usually, she’s returning from a training with Rodney Yee. This week, she returned from a weekend at Omega with another yoga master, Erich Schiffman. She returned with a very different energy.

The class started in a way it’s never started before. Swinging our arms, letting go of form and following the momentum.

Quickly, a sense of freedom flowed.

I could feel the energy in the room open and relax and ease.

There was a bubbliness as people made humorous and appreciating remarks.

Even the remarking was unusual.

One member of the class started reciting, “If you’re happy and you know it…”

And it was that easy to go from dull to happy. Swinging and rotating our arms, shaking our hands in all sorts of directions, shaking our feet, our legs, letting it all go.

So amazingly simple.

So totally freeing.

When we then stood in tadasana (a standing pose, feet together, hands by the sides), all that movement continued flowing within my stillness as I felt myself extending, sensing connections in my body, aligning, and being fully present.

Shaking it up is a really effective way to take an excursion, to break out of the habitual and allow yourself to flow.

And this is particularly relevant when we’re working and coming at it in the same way, time after time. Whether you’re an entrepreneur or a corporate warrior or a caregiver, whatever you do, “how you be” makes all the difference in “how you do”.

Shake it up for yourself to break out of your habitual patterns and free your mind and your creativity and your insight so you can take a quantum leap in whatever you do.
