SoundBath Excursion: May 10 at Unison Arts

140117 SoundBath graphic v4Inspire and recharge yourself  by taking frequent excursions that break up the routine, nourish and delight you.  Excursions can be as extensive as a trip to Bhutan or as close at hand as a board game with friends.

Here’s an excursion that will relax you and inspire you to dream.

SoundBath with Steve Gorn, Peter Blum, Thomas Workman, and Naaz Hosseini

SoundBaths are unique concert/meditation events that create a “sonic bath” or “field of sacred sound”; you are encouraged to experience this as a “horizontal concert” – lying on blankets or yoga mats and allowing the other-worldly sounds to guide you into deep contemplative states suitable for healing, relaxation, and excursions of the imagination.

Peter Blum and Naaz Hosseini have presented numerous SoundBaths at yoga studios and meditation halls over the past 15 years, often teaming with like-minded creative musicians such as David Budd,  Thomas Workman, and bansuri flute master, Steve Gorn.

We will post a Facebook Events Page closer to the date –  you’ll be able to join the conversation and SHARE the event.

Steve Gorn’s bansurai flute is featured on the 2011 Grammy-winning recording “Mino – Journey to the Mountain,” with the Paul Winter Consort, and the Academy Award winning Documentary film, Born into Brothels. His unique blend of Indian music and contemporary world music can be heard on recordings with Krishna Das, Jai Uttal, Tony Levin, Paul Simon, Glen Velez, Jack DeJohnette, Richie Havens, Deepak Chopra, and many others.

Peter Blum, Woodstock area musician and hypnotherapist, has been exploring the more esoteric aspects of sound for the past twenty-five years.  He studied North Indian classical music with the senior disciple of Ravi Shankar, Ustad Jamulludin Bhartiya.  He studied the use of sound for healing with Jill Purse and studied varieties of sound meditation with Native American shaman Beautiful Painted Arrow and avant-garde composer Pauline Oliveros.

Thomas Workman is certified and active as a Sound Healer.  He leads healing sessions with groups and individuals. He is a  performer with deep roots in jazz, world folk musics and improvisation, and has helped organize a variety of groups, including the Big Sky Ensemble, BaKana and the Sonitas Project. He has played extensively for theater, and has performed with Steve Gorn, Roswell Rudd, Pete Seeger, Tani Tabbal, Karl Berger, Joakim Lartey, Chris Lane, Arm-of-the-Sea Theater (Musical Director), and The Vanaver Caravan, among others.

Naaz Hosseini is a master vocalist, violinist, dancer, composer, psychotherapist, and voice empowerment coach. As a multi-disciplinary performer she has appeared world-wide with the Meredith Monk Vocal Ensemble, Liz Lerman Dance Exchange, and the Laura Dean Dancers and Musicians at venues including Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center, Tokyo University, Walker Art Center, and the Steirischer Herbst Festival. As composer/performer, she collaborated with Pilobolus, the National Theatre of the Deaf, and Bridgman/Packer Dance.
