Voice is an integral part of the therapeutic process. When we, as practitioners, are not aware of our own voice, we can undermine our intention. When we are not aware of our clients’ voices, we may miss important cues.

Through lecture, practicum, and case study, this training will attune you to ways in which voice informs and helps guide effective practice. You will
  • build awareness of qualities of voice;
  • learn to use vocal cues to track a client;
  • use voice as a tool to help your client shift states;
  • enhance your capacity to join, support, and, when appropriate, interrupt your clients; and
  • extend your facility in designing and fine-tuning therapeutic experiments.
This workshop will help you to 1) Build awareness of voice as communication; 2) Learn to use voice intentionally and effectively; 3) Use vocal cues to hear clients with greater attunement; 4) Enhance capacity to join, support and, when appropriate, interrupt your clients; and 5) Expand facility to design and fine-tune therapeutic interventions.

Participants will be able to:

  • Understand implications of voice in establishing rapport.
  • Learn to use voice to enhance communication and trust with clients.
  • Learn to employ elements of voice (pitch, volume, quality, etc.) in practice to enhance awareness, communication, and healing.
  • Use voice as a diagnostic to guide the use of interventions.
  • Work with voice as an intervention.

5 CONTINUING EDUCATION hours available to Licensed Social Workers, Licensed Psychoanalysts, and Mental Health Counselors.

NAAZ HOSSEINI, MA, LP.

Naaz Hosseini is a NYS Licensed Psychoanalyst with a private psychotherapy and supervision practice in Nyack, New York working with individuals, couples, and groups. She is former Referral Director of the Gestalt Center of Psychotherapy and Training and Supervisor at the Columbia Teachers College Department of Counseling and Psychology. She offers courses and training in voice attunement for therapists. Naaz developed Powerful Presence Coaching to train entrepreneurs and other professionals to own their voices and communicate with confidence, clarity, and ease.
